REVERSE ENGINEERING ELECTRONIC MUSIC FOR LIVE PERFORMANCE
Hosted by: John Davis and Jojo Mayer of Nerve
Jojo Mayer and his band Nerve are some of the founding members of the “live-tronic” movement. Since starting and hosting the “Prohibited Beats” sessions in NYC in the early to mid 90′s, Jojo and Co have been dissecting some of the most complicated and computerized beats and recreating them via real instruments and the human hand. In this very special and exclusive workshop, Jojo and Nerve bassist John Davis, owner and producer @ the Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, New York, will host a discussion about the process of recreating programmed, computerized beats in real time. This includes Bass effects and sound design, drum gear and technique, groove, programming, and the general mentality that it takes to blend man and machine in a way that they pioneered. We are very excited for this workshop. Whether you are bassist, drummer, or a big fan, this is not to be missed!
Hosted by: Zachary Nolin
Zachary Nolin is a visual artist living in Boston. His work ranges from intricate mandala drawings and multi-layered psychedelic painting, to editing techniques used to make music videos, commercials, and short films.
Come learn, practice, and collaborate in the art of mandala making! After a brief history lesson on how Mandala’s have been used by different cultures, as well as how they are a tool for spiritual growth, you will learn useful tips for successfully creating your own mandala. This workshop will have you making your own mandala, as well as creating one big group mandala through out the weekend that will be on display for the rest of the festival!

CONSIDER THE SOURCE ACADEMY:
How to Incorporate Electronic and World Music into Acoustic Settings
Hosted by: Consider the Source
Join New York City trio Consider the Source (on Friday) for an interactive discussion on the eclectic instruments used in their live performances, plus the ways they incorporate world music into their inspiring sound! Drawing from progressive rock, fusion and jazz, with alien sounds soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles, CTS blends disparate parts into a striking, utterly original whole. Dubbed “Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion”, the band’s music strikes a rare balance between cerebral and emotional, intellectual and primal. In their performances Gabriel Marin, John Ferrara and Jeff Man use the Dutar, Saz, Dombra, DanBau, Ukelele Bass, Banjo Bass, Fretless Nylon Acoustic, Djembe, Dumbek, and more. CTS will demonstrate ways they rewrite and rethink electric songs to work in an acoustic setting, followed by an intimate 45-minute acoustic performance including many instruments discussed in the workshop!
